Friendship is one of life's most vibrant quilts. It warms us, gives us a comfortable place to land, and brings colour and pattern to our lives. The beautiful Amanda Herring has designed a quilt pattern honouring all the qualities of friendship. From this Friendship quilt pattern I selected the blocks Gracious, Empathic, Patient and Helpful to create a quilted European pillow case using my most recent fabric collection called 'The Handpicked Collection' for Riley Blake Designs (out Nov. 2018).
I started by piecing the blocks together and quilting the ground in a diagonal fashion.
Appliqué the shapes using freezer paper and edging the shapes in a small zigzag machine stitching. The stems are prepared as a cut/fold bias and slip stitched down to allow for a 3D effect. And the Red wool flower shapes are stitched down only in the centre with the reverse appliqué neatly sitting behind allowing the petals to move freely.
Once I finished the pillow case front, I created the back with a zip in the middle and attached the front and back together to create my Euro pillow case.
